Now the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics was closed. Let’s have a short summary of this excellent sports game.

As you know, it is an international Olympic event hosted by China. It opened on February 4, 2022 and closed on February 20.

1 Event preparation

Application process

On November 3, 2013, the Chinese Olympic Committee officially applied to the International Olympic Committee for hosting 2022 Winter Olympics. The deadline for submitting bids for the 24th Winter Olympics was November 14, 2013. The International Olympic Committee announced on November 15 a list of six cities that have submitted bids.

On January 17, 2014, Stockholm (Sweden) withdrew from the bid. In May, Krakow (Poland) withdrew from the bid. In June, Lviv (Ukraine) withdrew from the bid. On July 7, the International Olympic Committee announced three candidate cities in Lausanne: Oslo (Norway), Almaty (Kazakhstan) and Beijing (China). On October 1, Oslo announced that it would abandon its bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

On July 31, 2015, on the 128th International Olympic Committee Plenary Session in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, Beijing won with 44 votes vs 40 votes for Almaty , Kazakhstan. Beijing has thus become the only city in the world that has hosted both the Summer Olympics and the Winter Olympics.

2 Competition preparation

On December 15, 2015, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Organizing Committee held its inaugural meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The establishment of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee marks the official start of the preparations for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

On October 19, 2017, Zhang Jiandong, deputy mayor of Beijing and executive vice chairman of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, revealed that the construction of venues and infrastructure for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics has fully started.

On February 25, 2018, the mayor of Beijing, Chen Jining, took over the Olympic flag from Bach, and the four-yearly Winter Olympics officially opened the chapter of “Beijing Time”.

On September 17, 2019, the Beijing Winter Olympics mascot “Bing Dun Dun” and the Winter Paralympics mascot “Xue Rongrong” were unveiled.

On December 30, 2019, the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway was put into operation, providing transportation operation service guarantee for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

In September 2020, the four competition venues in the Zhangjiakou competition area – Yunding Ski Park, National Ski Jumping Center, National Cross Country Skiing Center and National Biathlon Center are all ready for competition. By the end of 2020, all eight competition venues in Beijing were completed.

On February 4, 2021, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics Torch “Flying” was officially unveiled.

In June 2021, the Beijing Winter Olympic Village residential area, where the athletes and accompanying officials live in the Beijing competition area, was fully completed and handed over to the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee for use.

On June 29, 2021, the main media center for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics was completed.

On September 17, 2021, the theme slogan of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics “Together for a Shared Future” was officially announced.

In October 2021, the recruitment of volunteers for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics were completed, and the training of volunteers for the Games began.

In December 2021, the recruitment of urban volunteers for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics has been launched. On the “12.5” International Volunteer Day, city volunteers were employed at various city service stations across the city.

On December 23, 2021, the State Council held a press conference to introduce the relevant content of the second edition of the “Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics Epidemic Prevention Manual”. Han Zirong, the full-time vice-chairman and secretary-general of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, introduced that all Olympic-related personnel need to complete the whole course of vaccination at least 14 days before coming to China before they can be exempted from centralized isolation and enter closed-loop management. In view of the complexity of the current global epidemic situation, we especially recommend that all Olympic-related personnel be given the booster shot of the covid19 vaccine.

On January 4, 2022, the main media center of the Beijing Winter Olympics started its trial operation.

On January 5, 2022, the torch display of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics was held in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province.

In January 2022, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics awards ceremony clothing was released.

On January 18, 2022, the Beijing Winter Olympic Village (Winter Paralympic Village) started closed-loop management and officially enter the state of the competition.

At 6:20 a.m. on January 21, 2022, the G8801 fast train departed from Qinghe Station, marking the opening of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-speed Railway Winter Olympics train transportation service. The Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway provides transportation services for the Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics from January 21 to March 16, a total of 55 days.

On January 27, 2022, the Winter Olympic Villages in the three competition areas of the Beijing Winter Olympics were officially opened, and large groups of delegations entered Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou Winter Olympic Villages one after another.

The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics Torch Relay was held in Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou from February 2 to February 4, 2022.

On February 2, 2022, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) held a press conference at the Beijing Winter Olympics Main Media Center. Witold Banka, chairman of the World Anti-Doping Agency, said that a series of anti-doping measures have been deployed at the Tokyo Olympics, and the Beijing Winter Olympics will be the first time that all anti-doping measures will be routinely used for testing. The performance of DBS (Dry Blood Spot Doping Control) will be observed at the Beijing Winter Olympics, followed by a more comprehensive use of DBS in all sports.

On February 3, 2022, International Olympic Committee President Bach attended a press conference held at the main media center of the Beijing Winter Olympics.

On the evening of February 4, 2022, the opening ceremony of the 24th Winter Olympic Games was held at the National Stadium. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, State President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended the opening ceremony and announced the opening of the Winter Olympics.

On February 11, 2022, the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee released the Chinese and international versions of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics Legacy Case Report Collection (2022).

On the evening of February 20, 2022, the closing ceremony of the 24th Winter Olympic Games was held at the National Stadium.
